A 1940 Census New York Mashup!

Recently, the Center for Urban Research at the CUNY Graduate Center announced the creation of a new website which graphically depicts life in New York City during the 1940s.

1940s New York (http://www.1940snewyork.com) is a great resource to learn more about what it was like to live in the city during the 1940s.  The basis for the map is New York City Market Analysis which was published in four local newspapers in 1943. The Center for Urban Research has taken pages from this series and linked them to neighborhoods in all five boroughs of New York City.

If you have ancestors that lived in New York City during the 1940s and you've already found their 1940 Census pages, then take a few minutes to find out more about the neighborhood where they lived!
